What vehicle to take?
The closest we come to a rule! Your vehicle must be:
- 1200cc engine capacity or less
- no older than 15 years old
- left hand drive
Polo, Micra, Polo, Corsa? Rally legends! Just add some rally paint work and you are ready to go- The mysterious Tajik Rally Award will be made to the coolest, most rally and unique vehicle at the start line!
Driving your grandmother's hand-me-down will guarantee all teams have the maximum fun & adventure. You will be surprised how the 'tough' in these cars gets going when the going gets tough- Granny wouldn't dream of it!
Mechanical ability
None is required- if you don't already know how, you will quickly learn how to change a wheel! Beyond this, breaking down is a recommended cultural experience and a great way to spend time with a local mechanic, his mates and family. Reparis in Central Asia are very cheap and will not usually impact greatly on your budget.
The Adventure Manufactory rally handbook will give you a list of mechanical preparations to make before departure, but remember,
If it doesn't move but should: Use WD40 or a hammer
If it moves but shouldn't: Use gaffa tape or string
Carbon offsets
All rally driving is carbon offset through programs supporting green technology and tree planting that permanently builds local biodiversity.
What happens to the vehicle?
Upon completing the rally, the vehicles are auctioned off, with profits going to local charities. The vehicle import to Tajikistan is organized by the Adventure Manufactory while you fly home.
Or you can drive it home... from personal experience, we understand how weeks spent battling non-existent roads forms a bond between man and machine RoboCop would admire. The cramped conditions can also induce Stockholm Syndrome so if you believe true adventure doesn't end in an aeroplane seat, let us know prior to the start of the rally that you intend to drive your vehicle home and we will make the necessary arrangements.
